So on my way home from work tonight there was a roadblock, in the most usual and frequent of places: the tire place on Park Avenue just before you turn on to Guest River.
First off, there are 4 cop cars with blue lights going, plus all kinds of flares out. That had my head spinning.
The cop comes up, asks for my license. It takes several seconds for me to pull it from my wallet since I'm nearly ready to go into a seizure from the lights (ugh). That looks bad.
He looks at the license. Then he looks at me and asks "Have you been drinking?" And he asks, not in the "I have to ask these standard questions" tone, but in the "I can smell it all over you" tone.
WTPHHH?
Nervously (and I dont know why nervously) I answer "uhhh...noooo."
I stare at him with a combination of a blank/puzzled look that only a blonde can have before it dawns on me.. he's smelling something.. wait.. I know... it's the antifreeze! I've got a coolant leak in the vehicle and it's all in the cab.
"Oh.. you're smelling the antifreeze!!" (as I point to the open container in the floorboard that has been collecting the slightly green tinged liquid)
"Is that what that is?" and he shines his little flashlight in and checks it out. I"'m like "yes! that's it! I've lost about 6 cups of the stuff today and the floorboard is full of it"
Whew. I was getting ready to volunteer for a breathylizer.
He checks my license again. Checks the inspection sticker (it's all good). Checks the county or city sticker. It's a current Wise County sticker.
He says "Where do you live? City or County?"
The great blonde response I come back with: "I don't know."
"The county told us we were in the county and the city said we were in the city, and his vehicle is registered Wise County but mine in the city, and I'm driving his truck and he's driving my car."
He let me go.
(I'm glad he never asked for the registration.. because I can only assume it's in Indian_Dad's wallet up on Red Onion)

I feel for you ,,,, most of these roadblocks do not use good judgement. And all these advertisements lately,, IF you drive while drinking we will catch you... which i think some of our locals listen to that and get gung ho... GOING TO CATCH ME SOME DRUNKS,,, there needs to be a lot more 'finesse'

If you think that's bad, try having out of state tags on the car. I was stopped at a road block in Pennington Gap last year. Seeing that I now live in North Carolina I had North Carolina tags on the car. With all the questions that were asked of me you would have thought I was trying to enter Germany. I concluded my business in Pennington in less then half an hour and I had to go back through the road block again. Beside re-answering all those questions again they asked me "why are you leaving town so soon"? The only good thing about this was they all the entire police force there so I could leave Lee county as fast as I wanted to.
